18 May 2019

Moonen Yachts announces that the 36-metre Brigadoon has been awarded Best Yacht in the semi-displacement or planing motor yachts – 33 to 39.9-metre category in the 2019 edition of the World Superyacht Awards in London.

Moonen Yachts is excited to announce that the 36-metre Brigadoon has won at the World Superyacht Awards 2019. Brigadoon received the title of Best Yacht in the semi-displacement or planing motor yachts – 33 to 39.9-metre category.  The build team, including Brigadoon’s owners, accepted the prestigious Neptune at the glamorous awards ceremony in London on the 18th May.

Hosted annually by Boat International, the World Superyacht Awards are the annual recognition of excellence in the yachting industry. Johan Dubbelman, CEO of Moonen Yachts, says: “To take a World Superyacht Award home to the Netherlands this year is fantastic, and something that we’re all extremely proud of. Brigadoon is a beautiful yacht, marking the future of our brand while truly embodying everything that Moonen Yachts is renowned for – elegant design, great performance and unparalleled safety. We thank Brigadoon’s owners for their trust in Moonen, and to all the talented teams at Diana Yacht Design, Réne Van Der Velden, Nauta Design and Studio Indigo. We look back on a great collaboration, and it’s an honour for this synergy to be recognised with this win at the World Superyacht Awards 2019.”

Award-winning collaboration
Delivered in 2018, the 36-metre Brigadoon is the first yacht built on the semi-custom Martinique 36-metre platform, one of four models in Moonen’s contemporary Caribbean Line.  She features exterior design by the renowned Dutch designer, Réne Van Der Velden, with naval architecture undertaken in collaboration with Diana Yacht Design. Nauta Design is responsible for her interior design, with interior styling by London-based Studio Indigo.

Taking ownership of the yacht and coming into the construction process just a few months’ before completion, Brigadoon’s owner, Mike Fisher, describes his experience of considering and creating their award-winning superyacht: “The exterior by René  Van der Velden was classic, and we could see it wouldn’t date too quickly. Its snub-nosed bow reminded us of our American cocker spaniels, Lucy and Farah. Nauta’s restrained teak-finished interior was well considered, disciplined and very architectural. Every detail had been thought through. Its understated style provided the perfect backdrop to put our own aesthetic stamp on. We wanted the look to be elegant yet practical, stylish, but also with a sense of its own identity and character.  The result – we hope – is an understated luxury that’s not too precious and can be enjoyed by all.

We were thrilled enough to be nominated for this prestigious award,” Fisher continues, “and now we are utterly delighted that we have won. However, the real credit goes to the Moonen shipyard and their team who created this wonderful yacht. Thanks to Diana Yachts, Rene van der Velden, Nauta Design and Studio Indigo.

A sistership to Brigadoon is currently under construction at Moonen’s facilities in the Netherlands. Moonen YN199 is the second yacht to be built on the 36-metre Martinique platform. Available for sale and scheduled for delivery early spring 2020, interior styling and decoration will be a close collaboration between YN199’s future owners and London-based interior designers, Studio Indigo.
