Moonen quality control
The 42m custom Moonen superyacht Sofia came within a whisker of winning the Displacement motor yacht below 500 GT prize at the World Superyachts Award ceremony on 3 May. In what was described by the judges as an exceptionally close call, Sofia receiving a Commendation prize in a field of ten impressive luxury yachts.
The high-status World Superyachts Awards event was held for the first time in Amsterdam. For Sofia to receive the judges’ commendation was a cool achievement for our yard, especially considering the fierce competition. While we would have loved to have won the award, to receive recognition like this is still a considerable honour for the owner of Sofia and the craftsmen that built her. It is also a testament to Moonen quality control and the relationship between Moonen and designer Rene van der Velden.
Praise for Moonen
The World Superyacht Awards judges subjected the ten final nominations to lengthy study and debate before holding a secret ballot to decide the winner. The votes between the first and second placed yacht were very close according to the jury, which described Sofia in glowing terms: “In addition to being an all-round, well-conceived yacht, the ability of a yacht of this size to carry and operate a three-seat submarine was considered worthy of a Judges’ Commendation.”
Sofia was a very challenging project as the build changed to meet the owner’s wishes (read the full story on Sofia here). The fact that Moonen still ensured on-time delivery was impressive. And as always the Moonen build project manager addressed any problems that arose with great efficiency. The owner has since also expressed his delight at the quality of Moonen’s after-sales service and the Moonen warranty scheme
