Jumbo VI 2001

In August 2000 a fire raged on board the yacht of his Royal Highness Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. Moonen Shipyards was selected by the Prince to carry out the work on the royal yacht originally built by Moonen. It was decided to erect a temporarily building facility so as to be able to reach the given timetable and have the yacht ready for the next season. As well as destroying the dining room and the technical spaces below the wheelhouse, the fire reached the wheelhouse itself and the galley. As a result the yacht, a Moonen 85, could not sail on her own keel back to Holland. She was therefore brought to Rotterdam as deck cargo from where she was towed to the yard in ‘s Hertogenbosch. Moonen rebuilt the damaged areas and at the same time the opportunity was taken to completely repaint the yacht and to replace the upholstery throughout. The yacht was handed over to her proud owner as planned at the end of May 2001. Who immediately had the crew sail her back to her homeport in Italy in time for the new season.
